Raising Funds

A sure way to raise hundreds for pounds for your chosen fundraiser or charity, how it works, you go along to the tote desk at your event with your 50ps or £1 coins and select of number or numbers you think will win the race. On the race you are always betting to win only.

Generally there are 8 runners in each of the races and a night can contain 8-10 races. When the betting closes on the race a deduction is made from the tote betting takings this is between 30% – 50% for the fund raiser and the balance is paid out equally between the winning tickets on the winning number. Race nights are well used by sports clubs, schools, local charities, rotary, lions, round table, freemasons, golf clubs, cricket clubs, social clubs or virtually anyone that wishes to raise funds for a nominal outlay.

The commentators for the races are widely used by TV racing channels and add excitement and add fun to the events, all the races are genuine races that have been filmed by the TV companies. Your race night event could have raised over £500 before the event with sponsorship and pre-selling the horse names and getting sponsorships for the races, other betting ideas will include a Tri-cast race, dual forecast and an auction race for the last race which is great fun which can raise lots of money.

Each race is called by number only and each of the races have leader boards and end winning number captions. Some of the countries that supply races include the UK, Hong Kong, NW Zealand, South Africa, America and Ireland. A good mixture of races from several countries will add fun to the event the racing pigs are great fun, to see little pigs with knitted woolly jockeys on their back are great fun and have been shown on many TV channels.

Globe Derby Park was named after a stallion named Globe Derby, which was considered the most influential horse in Australian harness racing during the late 60s. It was the South Australian Trotting Club that awarded this name to the Racecourse. Meanwhile, the Salisbury suburb where the racetrack is located was also named after the stallion. According to one of the established names of SA harness industry, Jim Hurley, they have been referring to the racetrack as Globe Derby even before the track’s official opening in 1969. Globe Derby Park first held its public meeting on the afternoon of June 24th, 1969. All harness races in Adelaide were first held at the Wayville Showground from 1934, but starting April 14th 1973, all Adelaide race meetings were moved at Globe Derby Park.
