The Race To Being Beautiful

Beauty; is it a word, a meaning or just an expression? Or is it something much deeper than that; is it a pressure, a constant nag and a way of life?

Ok, so what exactly does the word beauty mean? The Cambridge dictionary defines it as being the quality of being pleasing, especially to look at, or someone or something that gives great pleasure, so does this mean that beauty brings pleasure to us all. No. Not in the slightest. These days, we can not look at a beautiful person without feeling that slight pinch on arm. That’s right, the green eyed monster. In many cases, seeing a beautiful person can lead to pleasure, but in others, it leads to the feeling of jealousy and pain, a reminder that we ourselves are not pleasing to the eye.

But why do we feel the need to envy those graced with beautiful faces, figures and all round personalities? Should we all not feel beautiful in ourselves? The truth is, once we feel some sort of pressure or stress in our lives, we tend to fall behind in the beauty race. Kerry, 19, has just started college. She says, “I used to love getting ready for a night out with the girls, even if we only went for a meal. I would have my bath and get ready like any other girl my age, and for some reason, it was so fun. I would feel so good about myself, but since starting college, there’s just no time for that now. I see all my old friends, still looking as gorgeous as ever on their nights out, and to be honest it just makes me feel ugly!” Kerry puts all her time in to her studies that she doesn’t have her nights out anymore, but why should she have to stop feeling beautiful? There has to be something that a busy girl can fit into her schedule to make her feel gorgeous.

Kerry says her friends all have jobs, but they still have to feel beautiful, so why doesn’t she? Does this mean that a girl has to make herself up in order to feel sexy? No. There are other options. Heidi, 21, works full-time as a receptionist. She works long hours 5 days a week, spends most of her time with her boyfriend, and still has time to feel beautiful. “I know that I do work hard, and I have less time for myself than I used to, but I don’t let this stop me from feeling sexy once in a while. Before I go to bed I like to put on moisturiser, my soft skin makes me feel beautiful. I also like to spray a little perfume in my hair each morning so I smell beautiful. I don’t usually wear much make-up but my lip-gloss smile makes me look beautiful”

So is the secret to feeling beautiful, all in the little things. Maybe all Kerry needs to do is take a few minutes each day to make her feel beautiful, and she would still have time for her college work. “Taking a few minutes each day to treat myself makes me forget about the pressures of work and life in general. Feeling sexy can help me have faith in myself to get things done”, says Heidi.

Both Kerry and Heidi treat beauty as a small aspect of their lives, they do not let is overtake everything they do. However, some people do. Some people let the idea of beauty and looking gorgeous become the most important thing in their lives. Take Jordan for example, she has become one of the world richest females, and it was all down to her looks. She even went to the extreme of having cosmetic surgery to make herself look more beautiful.

Still, what does beauty mean? Is it something that we should all be conscious of, or is it only for ‘beautiful people’? Well, we are all beautiful; there is a natural instinct in us all to look and feel beautiful, even if it is just occasionally, or every day. The trick is to unleash your sexy side, with just a few tricks in order to make your self feel and look beautiful.

Florida Major Auto Race Speedways

Daytona International Speedway is home to one of America’s greatest auto races, the Daytona 500. It’s the biggest, richest race in America and annually kicks off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. NASCAR was founded by William France Sr. and other race promoters at Daytona Beach, Florida in 1947. The premiere was held at the Daytona Beach Road Course. The original road course started on the pavement of highway A1A, parallel to the ocean in Ormand Beach, and went south to the end of the road, where the drivers accessed the beach and headed north again to the finish. The Daytona Speedway, which originally opened in 1959, has a 2.5-mile high banked asphalt oval and a 3.56-mile asphalt road course with 9 turns. The Daytona 500 Experience opened in 1996 as a highly-interactive multi-million-dollar entertainment facility designed to broaden the entertainment and educational experience of visitors and strengthen Daytona’s status as a destination.

Homestead-Miami Speedway hosts the final races of the season in the IRL Indy Car Series, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series, Camping World Truck Series, and the Grand-Am Sports Car Series. The speedway was constructed to help Homestead rebound after the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew. Groundbreaking began August 24, 1993, exactly one year after the hurricane. It opened in November 1995 with a NASCAR Busch Series race and is considered to be one of the most beautiful race tracks in the country. In 2003, the track was reconfigured to produce steep variable banking and lights were installed for night racing. Its 1.5-mile high-banked asphalt oval and 2.1 mile paved road course with 14 turns make it an exciting track for drivers and spectators alike.

Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida is one of the oldest continuously-operating auto race tracks in the United States, hosting its first race in 1950. Sebring is one of the most famous classic race tracks in North American sports car racing, and the 12 Hours of Sebring is legendary in the sports car circuit. The raceway occupies a portion of Sebring Regional Airport, an active airport for private and commercial traffic that was originally built as a WWII Army Air Force training base. The first 12 Hours of Sebring was held in 1952, and grew into a major international race. In 1959, the racetrack hosted the first Formula One United States Grand Prix. The 3.7-mile asphalt/concrete road course with 17 turns was famous for its high-speed Turn 17, a long, bumpy, fast, right turn that can make or break a car’s speed down the long straightaway.

The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is an IRL Indy Car Series race held in St. Petersburg and was the first non-oval event for the Indy Racing League. Andretti Green Promotions, the organization that owns and operates the event, signed a contract extension with the city of St. Petersburg through 2013, and city officials hope to extend it through 2014. The race is a 1.78-mile paved city street road course with 14 turns.

Palm Beach International Raceway, formerly Moroso Motorsports Park, is one of Florida’s world-class road courses. Pending its FIA grade II certification, PBIR could be hosting many exciting race events, such as IRL, Indy Lights and Grand Am races. The 2-mile, 11-turn road course has a 3/5-mile straightaway and banked turns. Its 1/4-mile drag strip is built to INRA and NHRA specifications, and the 4/5-mile kart track with 11 turns lets you open it up on 3 long straightaways. Bring your own kart or rent one at the track. The track is open all year for year-round racing.

Florida is a great destination for racing fans and has all the excitement you’d expect in world-class auto racing. Plan your visit or make your move to Florida to be near all the action.

Your First 5K Race

So, you are about to run your first 5K. You will always remember this day. The day of your first official 5K race. There are some things you will need to do and some things you should do. But the bottom line is to have a good time and enjoy your run. Everything else will work itself out.

The day before the race, lay out your clothes, shoes, socks and anything else you might need. You do not want to find out your running shorts are dirty or your shoe is missing. Have it all ready so that you are not scrambling. Gather together 5 safety pins. You will need 4 to pin your number to your jersey. It is just nice to have an extra. If you are bringing a camera, make sure you have film and pack it into your car.

Make sure you show up to the race rested and ready to go. Get plenty of sleep the night before. Have a small meal 2-4 hours before the race. Now is not the time to try something new. Eat something easily digested that you know you enjoy and will not cause any stomach problems. Drink some water, but not too much.

Leave for the race early. This way you can allow for a few minutes in case you get lost, encounter traffic, etc.

Check in early. Get settled. Ask questions if you have any before the last minute rush arrives.

When everyone else starts to line up, you line up. It is probably best that you are at the back of the group for your first run.

Pace yourself during the race. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement and run too fast. Don’t burn out right away.

Be proud of yourself for completing your first 5K. You have just done something that most of the population can not do.
